Why My City is Cool

Federal stimulus funds have helped the city of Eau Claire carry out energy efficiency projects.
The City Council of Eau Claire approved a resolution in Nov. '08 which declared the City as an Energy Independent Community (EIC). An EIC is an agreement between the State of Wisconsin's Office of Energy Independence (OEI) and those communities that adopt the State's 25x25 goals.
Eau Claire is receiving $655,700 in funding from the Energy Efficiency Community Block Grant Program. Projects to be funded include: City Hall Complex and Hobbs Ice Arena Lighting Retrofits; City Hall Complex HVAC and Controls Upgrade, Variable
Frequency Drives, and a New Gas Water Heater; Hobbs low-e ceilings; and an Akervik Rink Dehumidification System. It is estimated that these activities will create or retain 9.82 jobs, annually save 706,953 in emissions, save 259,450 kWh, and 22,786 in Therms over 36 months, and leverage $241,900 in funds.
