Why My City is Cool

Clarkstown has signed the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. The town has also joined ICLEI.

On August 26, 2008 the Town Board passed a law requiring single- or two-family homes and townhouses of no more than three stories to meet Energy Star standards. Supervisor Gramack says in an article in The Journal News that "Clarkstown is proud to be the first town in Rockland County to initiate building of more energy-efficient homes. We're breaking new ground and we are taking it to the next level. We could have a continuation of the old, but we have a higher standard. It's smart for builders to do it. In the long term it will benefit our community."
